Enhancing Google Indexing: The Importance of Sitemaps and Robots.txt for Your Website
Updated over 4 months ago

Google will index your website even without a sitemap or robots.txt file, but having both can significantly enhance how Google understands your site's structure and speed up the indexing process.

What is a Sitemap?

A sitemap.xml is a file that helps search engines index all the pages on your site, understand their structure, and keep track of updates. This makes it easier for search engines to navigate and index your content efficiently.

What is Robots.txt?

The robots.txt file helps control how search engine robots crawl your site. It includes references to your XML sitemap to guide crawlers through your website's URL structure, improving the efficiency of crawling and indexing.

How Vsble Helps

Vsble automatically generates your sitemap and robots.txt files. This means Google and other search engines can read and update your site's structure, including new pages, categories, and content, each time you make edits. This automatic updating helps Google index your website more accurately and faster than it would by default.

Submitting Your Sitemap to Google

While you don't need to submit your robots.txt file to Google, you can submit your sitemap for quicker and more precise indexing. Here's how to do it:

  1. Sign in to Google Search Console: Google Search Console.

  2. Add Your Sitemap: Navigate to the Sitemaps section in the Google Search Console and enter your sitemap URL.

  3. Submit: Click submit and let Google handle the rest.

By submitting your sitemap, you ensure that Google indexes your site more efficiently, keeping your content up-to-date in search results.

Step by step guide:

1. In your Vsble dashboard under SEO settings, turn on the switch to auto-generate sitemap.xml and robot.txt

2. Copy the sitemap link

3. Select sitemaps in your Google Sarch Console

4. Paste the link to your sitemap and click "send" - that's it!

Once the sitemap is submitted and Google scanned, the status will change to "success" - after that Google "See" every page on your website and track updates.
