Add new MX records described under Step4
If your domain is from another provider (like GoDaddy, IONOS, etc.):

Find the DNS settings, Zone Editor, or Manage DNS
Step 3: Delete Existing MX Records
Before adding Google's MX records, delete any existing ones to avoid conflict.

Send and receive email as [email protected] inside your regular Gmail interface
SUMMERY & QUESTIONS
Are Google MX Records Always the Same?
Yes.
The MX records for Gmail (Google Workspace/GSuite) are the same for everyone. You only need to add these 5 records, and nothing else is required.
Here they are again:
Priority | Mail Server (MX Record) |
1 | ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM |
5 | ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM |
5 | ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM |
10 | ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM |
10 | ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM |
These are the only MX records you need to use for Gmail to work with your custom domain.
Do I Need to Add Anything Else? SPF, DKIM, etc.?
These are optional but recommended for email security and deliverability:
SPF Record (prevents others from sending emails using your domain):
Type: TXT
Name/Host: @
Value: v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all
DKIM + DMARC:
These can be set up inside the Google Admin Console.
Google generates these for you after your domain is verified.
Guide: Set up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC
But for just getting Gmail working with your domain, only the 5 MX records are required.
✅ TL;DR — Summary
Step | Required? | Purpose |
Add 5 Google MX Records | ✅ Yes | So Gmail can receive emails for your domain |
Add SPF (TXT) record | 🔒 Optional | Prevent spam/fake sending using your domain |
Add DKIM & DMARC | 🔒 Optional | Improve email security & deliverability |
